On Dec. 2 Koncir was named interim head coach of the Indiana volleyball program.
Paul Koncir was named an assistant coach for the IU Volleyball program in January 2011 after being added as an interim assistant coach during the 2010 season. He came to Bloomington after serving as the head coach at Towson University from 2006-09. Koncir begins his seventh season at Indiana in 2016.
On June 20, 2016 IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan promoted Koncir to Associate Head Coach.
In 2016 the Hoosiers finished the season with 17 wins, their most since the 2010 season. The Hoosiers started the season 9-0 for the fourth time in program history and went 11-2 in non-conference. Indiana beat two ranked teams in No. 13 Michigan and No. 22 Ohio State, their most wins over ranked opponents since the 2010 season. The Hoosiers beat four teams that made the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
In 2015 the Hoosiers continued their streak of nine straight years winning at least one pre-season tournament as they took the Indiana Invitational and the Northern Colorado Classic. The team won 10 non-conference matches for the sixth time in the last 25 years and for the first time since 2010 finished the season with an overall record at .500 or better.
In 2014 the Hoosiers started the season 6-0, winning the UConn Classic and Indiana Invitational. The team finished with their wins since the 2010 season. Senior Morgan Leach became the 17th player in program history to pass 1,000 kills, ending with 1,110. Sophomore Taylor Lebo ranked 13th in the NCAA with 51 aces, the fifth most in a single season in school history. Junior libero Courtney Harnish became the third player in program history with at least 445 digs. In the summer Koncir was choosen as an assistant coach for the Big Ten Foreign Tour trip to Europe with student-athletes from each of the Big Ten's 14 schools.
Koncir's first season at Indiana was a historic one, as Indiana advanced to the NCAA Tournament and made a run to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history. The Hoosiers finished the season 23-12 and saw Ashley Benson and Jordan Haverly earn All-Big Ten recognition. The Hoosiers won a 3-1 thriller at home over eventual NCAA champion Penn State, and IU took down Tennessee and Miami in NCAA first and second round action.
Season two in Bloomington saw Caitlin Cox break the school record for career digs, and Samantha Thrower tie a national record for hitting percentage in a match with 15 kills on 15 swings against Buffalo. The Hoosiers also took non-conference tournament titles at both home tourneys, winning the Hoosier Classic and the IU Classic.
In 2013 the Hoosiers won both the Indiana Invitational and Hoosier Classic Tournament titles and captured wins in eight of their first nine matches. In Big Ten play the Hoosiers earned a five-set victory at No. 10 Michigan State. Senior Caitlin Hansen reached the 1,000 dig mark and senior Jordan Haverly became the first Hoosier to record 1,500 kills and 1,000 digs.
In 2012, the Hoosiers showed glimpses of great things to come, taking victories over 17th-ranked Purdue at home and Wisconsin, Northwestern and Iowa on the road. During the season, Kelci Marschall and Haverly both eclipsed 1,000 career kills becoming Indiana's 15th and 16th members of the 1,000-kill club. Haverly hauled in honorable mention All-Big Ten laurels for her efforts on the season.
In his four seasons leading the Tigers volleyball program, Koncir gathered two trips to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships, a top-100 recruiting class (2009), six All-CAA selections, a CAA Rookie of the Year and a 2010 commitment from an Under-Armour High School All-American.
Before taking over at Towson, Koncir spent four years as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams at George Mason University (2004-06). His connection to George Mason dates back to his playing days as a GMU Patriot from 1994-98.
Koncir played for the Patriots from 1995-98. He started every match his senior season at outside hitter and was second on the team in kills. He has had a full playing career since graduating from Mason. In 1998 and 1999, Koncir was a member of the USAV Chesapeake Region championship team. In 1998 and 2002, he played for the Bahama International Tournament champions. In 2003, he was the Scottish Open Tournament MVP and in 2000 and 2004, his team won the Scottish Open.
Koncir's coaching trail also includes stops as an assistant coach for the Georgetown University women's team (2001-03), head coach of the Georgetown men's club team (2003) and assistant for both programs back at George Mason in 1999.
Koncir graduated from George Mason University in 1999 with a degree in Studio Arts.
Koncir resides in Bloomington, Ind., with his wife Kelsey.
