BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- Indiana scored its 16th win over a Top-25 opponent since 2011-12, taking down No. 22 SMU, 74-68, in front of a raucous crowd at Assembly Hall on Thursday evening.
The Hoosiers (3-0) drained a season-high 12 3-pointers after connecting on 11 and 10 in the first two games, respectively.
Indiana was led by freshman James Blackmon Jr., who chipped in a game and career-high 26 points, leading IU with five field goals from beyond the arc. In the first three games of his Indiana career, Blackmon is shooting 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from the 3-point mark.
Yogi Ferrell (13), Troy Williams (11) and Nick Zeisloft (10) also scored in double-figures.
SMU led by as many as 12 in the first half before the Hoosiers went on a 22-9 run and took a 38-33 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs scored the first 10 points of the second stanza, but Indiana battled back and regained the lead (53-52) on a Blackmon 3-pointer with 8:57 to play, a lead the Hoosiers wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the contest.
The Hoosiers weren't finished from the arc, as Indiana knocked in four 3-pointers off the hands of Collin Hartman, Zeisloft (2) and Ferrell in the final 7:40 of the game. Blackmon sank seven points from the charity stripe in the final 2:34 to put the game out of reach.
For the game, Indiana shot 80 percent (20-for-25) from the free-throw line, compared to the Mustangs' 50 percent (5-for-10).
The Hoosiers return to Assembly Hall on Saturday as they play host to Lamar at 8 p.m. ET.
