
Kuhn Breaks School Record, Receveur Takes Gold on Final Day of Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University track and field closed out the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Sunday. The men's team finished second overall with a total of 88 points behind Ohio State who won with 109 points. The women's team took fourth with 87 points. Minnesota claimed the women's title with a total of 134 points.
The Hoosiers brought home 11 medals on the third and final day of the Championships.
All-American Daniel Kuhn broke the 800m school record and ran the fourth fastest time in the nation when he brought home the silver with the time of 1:46.06 (1:46.052). The senior previously held the second fastest time in school history when he ran 1:46.69 at Arizona State in 2016. Sophomore Cooper Williams finished right next to Kuhn crossing the finish line in 1:46.06 (1:46.053), making him the second fastest Hoosier in history. Williams took the bronze, earning six points for the men's team. Redshirt senior also earned one point with his eighth place finish.
On the women's side the Hoosiers earned a total of 19 points. Senior Kendell Wiles led the team in her career-first Big Ten 800m finals when she brought home silver with the time of 2:05.81, just .08 behind Jamie Morrissey of Michigan who took the gold. Junior Kelsey Harris earned six points when she crossed the finish line in 2:06.39, taking bronze. Sophomore Joely Pinkston finished in 2:08.24, taking fifth (4 points) and sophomore Mallory Mulzer closed out the race for the Hoosiers with an eighth place finish (2:15.76), earning one final point for the Hoosiers.
The distance events were big scoring events on both the men's and the women's side Sunday afternoon.
All-American Katherine Receveur topped off her distance triple crown when she took the gold in the 5000m. The redshirt junior crossed the finish in 16:43.07, claiming her second medal of the Big Ten Championships, after taking silver in the 10,000m Friday night. Receveur is now a four-time Big Ten Champion with all of her titles being from the current 2017-18 season (XC, indoor 3000m, indoor 5000m and outdoor 5000m).
Junior Maggie Allen joined Receveur on the track again after taking bronze in the 10,000m Friday night. Allen earned another six points and another bronze medal for the Hoosiers when she took third with with the time of 16:44.83.
On the men's side redshirt freshman Ben Veatch also collected his second medal of the Championships when he took silver behind Aaron Baumgarten of Michigan. Veatch earned eighth points for the Hoosiers when he crossed the finish in 14:23.24. Teammate Bryce Millar also collected one point for the men's team when he took eighth with the time of 14:40.07.
Sophomore William Session had a lifetime best performance in the 110m hurdles when he took 0.18 off his time to get him across the finish in 13.57. Session collected his career first Big Ten medal as he took silver behind Antoine Lloyd of Nebraska. Session also earned one point in the 400m hurdles when he took eighth with the time of 53.46. Freshman Zykeria Williams earned four points for the Hoosiers with her fifth place finish in the 100m hurdles (13.70).
Redshirt junior Joe Murphy earned six points for the men's team when he took silver in the 1500m with the time of 3:51.75. On the women's side Brenna Calder took fifth place with the time of 4:30.73, earning four points for the Hoosiers.
In the relays the Hoosiers ran three season-best times starting with the women's 4x100m team consisting of sophomore Megan Grabowski, freshman Natalie Price, senior Brittany Thomas and Zykeria Williams who finished ninth overall with the time of 45.17. Junior Derek Grimmer, William Session, junior Treyton Harris and freshman Isaiah Ware took sixth, earning three points with a season-best time of 40.33.
The men's and women's 4x400m relays both finished fourth overall, earning five points each. Freshman Zubin Muncherji, Cooper Williams, Treyton Harris and Daniel Kuhn ran a season-best time of 3:09.22. On the women's side junior Riley Egbula, Kendell Wiles, junior Jeyland Valentin and Natalie Price finished in 3:37.20.
In the field junior Eric Bethea had a huge lifetime best performance that earned him a silver medal. Bethea leaped to his personal record of 15.90m (52' 2") on his second jump of the day, which ties him with Myron McClure for the seventh best mark in school history. On the women's side sophomore Leah Moran earned five points for the Hoosiers with her fourth place finish when she jumped 12.89m (42' 3.5") on her sixth attempt of the day.
Freshman Jyles Etienne brought home two points for the men's team when he finished seventh overall in the high jump with the mark of 2.08m (6' 9.75"). Sophomore Adam Coulon rounded out the men's points when he earned four points with his fifth place pole vault finish. Coulon cleared 5.21m (17' 1") on his first attempt.
