Throughout his four seasons as a Hoosier, senior Adam Hines understands the true meaning of his football scholarship. One of four captains of this year's team, Hines' unselfish attitude is evident both on and off the field, as he became one of the Varsity Club's youngest and most appreciative donors in November.
The Vandalia, Ohio native closed his college career in 2005 by starting 45 straight games. In addition, Hines played a team-high 851 offensive snaps.
"My scholarship has meant the world to me because it gave me an opportunity to not only play the great game of football, but also go to a great university like Indiana," Hines said. "The Varsity Club is what makes the athletic department operate. Through generous donations, the Varsity Club was responsible for my scholarship. Now it is my turn to give back part of the great gift I received."
Hines credits much of his success to the people of Indiana University and his Hoosier teammates. Giving back to IU Athletics is the best way Hines feels he can repay Indiana for all they have given him.
"I have met so many wonderful and different people at Indiana," Hines said. "Even though I am done playing I will always be considered an IU athlete. I will always have ties with the athletic department because I want to be associated with a great organization."
"Adam's heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to be an IU student-athlete should make all Varsity Club donors proud," Varsity Club director Scott Dolson said. "He personifies why the Varsity Club exists and we are extremely happy to welcome him as an annual donor to help develop student-athletes into successful, caring citizens for generations to come."
"I have enjoyed my time here and do not regret it at all," Hines said. "I was raised a Buckeye, but I'll die a Hoosier!"
