Chirico Named IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Oct. 23, senior men's soccer player Jordan Chirico earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"Jordan is not one of the most recognized players on our team, but he is one of the hardest working and a key reason for our success," Indiana head coach Mike Freitag said. "He carries that work ethic over to the classroom and personifies the term student-athlete. Jordan is a great role model for our younger players. He has a lot of leadership qualities, and he demonstrates those on a daily basis."
Chirico is graduating from the Kelley School of Business in three-and-a-half years with a degree in finance.
"Jordan has consistently done everything right as a student-athlete," academic advisor Jenn Townsend said. "He is a fantastic example of a student-athlete who has placed primary importance on academics and on getting his degree. Even though many student-athletes in his situation (playing on the two-time defending national championship men's soccer team) would focus the majority of their efforts on athletics; Jordan has proven that it is possible to excel both academically and athletically. He is someone who always strives to do his best, whether it is pursuing one of the most difficult degrees we have at IU or playing collegiate soccer for the best program in the nation."
