Paulk Named IU Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Oct. 29, freshman rower Brittney Paulk earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
Paulk, a native of Mishawaka, Ind., recently walked on to the rowing team. According to academic advisor Nelda Montemayor, Paulk has begun her career as a student-athlete off on the right track. "Brittney has shown herself and her new crew that she is committed to getting the job done, both in her sport and in her classes," Montemayor said. "Brittney demands a lot of herself, and this independent spirit is reflected in all that she attempts to accomplish."
Paulk's English W131 professor, Michael Lewis, agrees with that assessment. "I think, if every student showed this kind of attention to learning as Brittney does, every class at the University would be fantastic," Lewis said. "Her willingness to question authority, even, in a way that is conscientious and constructive, is a great model for other students."
