BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending March 5, freshman women's tennis player Sigrid Fischer earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"Sigrid has done a great job for us this year," Indiana head women's tennis coach Lin Loring said. "She gets better every week on the court. Her understanding of doubles has really improved. In the classroom, she is an excellent student. I know I don't have to worry about Sigrid. She is very responsible and stays on top of things."
In her second semester at Indiana, Fischer has already made the adjustment to the life of a student-athlete. She also plans on majoring in journalism.
"Sigrid is from eastern Germany and arrived at IU as very much the raw international student-athlete," academic advisor Scott Maxwell said. "She quickly made the transition in and out of the classroom and had an excellent first semester. She is a conscientious student who is well respected by all her professors and teammates alike."
