On April 6 over 150 Indiana student-athletes took the opportunity to say thank you. Student-athletes from 15 varsity sports turned out for the Varsity Club's annual Thank-a-Thon. Close to 1,000 thank you notes were written and 1,000 calls were made to thank donors for their loyalty and generosity to IU Athletics.
Below are what some of the student-athletes had to say about participating in this year's Thank-a-thon.
Senior women's golf student-athlete Molly Readfern
"I think giving student-athletes the chance to thank the donors is a great idea. I like the personal notes we are sending to them. It's something small that hopefully goes a long way. It's important for us to thank those who are so generous to IU."
Junior men's basketball student-athlete Roderick Wilmont
"This is so important because donors go out of their way for not just basketball, but for all of the sports at Indiana. We appreciate it a lot and don't always get the chance to say thanks. We really want to thank them for all they have done for us. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for generous supporters."
Junior women's basketball student-athlete Leah Enterline
"I actually don't have to be here tonight, but it's such an important thing to do that I thought I would come by anyway and write a few notes. It is so generous that people unselfishly give to our athletic department. It helps in so many ways. Most of us would not be here right now if it wasn't for them. We all appreciate that so much."
Freshman volleyball student-athlete Erica Short
"This is so important because the people we are calling and writing to do not have to give us donations, but they do. Everyone in this athletic department is so grateful that they do. Personally, I am so grateful and this is the best way I know to thank them for it."
Sophomore field hockey student-athlete Kate O'Connell
"I think thanking the donors is a very important thing to do. Most of us are on some kind of scholarship, and it's because of their generosity we have this opportunity. It's important to thank them for their generosity."
