IU Coaches Tour Stops In Southern Indiana

STARLIGHT, Ind.- More than 600 Hoosier fans gathered at Huber Farms near Louisville on May 10 for the Indiana Athletics Coaches Tour. IU head men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson, head women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack, head women's soccer coach Mick Lyon and athletics director Rick Greenspan met and greeted fans, joined them for a dinner, and offered their thoughts on the upcoming 06-07 seasons.
Although Sampson and Legette-Jack have been in Bloomington for less than two months, each coach has already made their mark on their respective program.
In her four-tenure as the head coach at Hofstra, Legette-Jack transformed the Pride into a perennial conference and postseason tournament contender. As an assistant coach, she established herself as a top recruiter and tactician at Syracuse, Boston College and Michigan State.
She is now focused on the bright future of the Hoosier program.
"We didn't come here just to coach basketball. We didn't come here to just win a couple of games," Legette-Jack said. "We came here to win championships. We are excited about this opportunity. We are excited about the support we are going to get from this community, because this is Hoosierland."
Upon his arrival at Huber Farms, Sampson spent 40 minutes addressing the Louisville-area media and signing autographs and posing for photos with fans. He signed more autographs and took more pictures for 30 minutes after the reception program, at which his message was clear.
"We will honor our past, but we will live in the future," Sampson said. "...I want to help make this program the best that it can be. Indiana has no business taking a back seat to anyone. One of my favorite sayings is `If you always do, what you have always done, you'll always get what you've always got.' ...In order for us to be the program that you (the fans) want us to be, fans have to step up to the plate and take that next step (in all levels of support)."
