Join Student-Athletes and Coaches for VARSITY CLUB DAY

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Join the Indiana Varsity Club for the annual Varsity Club Day on Sept. 16 at 4p.m., as the Hoosiers DEFEND THE ROCK against Southern Illinois.
The day's festivities begin with a free concert by Bahama Llama at 2 p.m., in the West concourse of Memorial Stadium.
Prior to kickoff, IU student-athletes and coaches will make their way around the stadium thanking donors for their support. This year, the student-athletes and coaches will be handing out buttons. Last year, 18 teams and over 200 student-athletes took part in Varsity Club Day activities.
Fans are encouraged to cheer on the Hoosiers at the The WALK! The team, led by head coach Terry Hoeppner, will enter the parking lot from 17th Street and proceed to the west side of Assembly Hall and down the steps to the stadium. The Walk begins two hours before game time.
"We think it's a great opportunity for our student-athletes to meet and thank those who fund their scholarships," Assistant Varsity Club Director for Development Anthony Thompson said. "The day also creates the opportunity for the donors to connect with the student-athletes and to see exactly where their money is going. It gives them a chance to reach out and touch their investments. It's a win-win situation for both."
Indiana men's basketball player, Adam Ahlfeld, believes it's important to thank those who have created so many opportunities for Indiana student-athletes through their generosity.
"I think it's important for IU student-athletes to meet and, especially, thank the donors personally because it serves as a great way to show that we appreciate their generosity and that they are just as important to Indiana athletics as we are," Ahlfeld said. "It's because of their donations and support that we're able to generate scholarships and thus field competitive athletic teams each year and I think it's very important that we as student-athletes realize all that the donors do and thank them personally for their efforts."
Water polo senior Jaclyn Tameris took part in the event last year and will do so again this year and believes it's a great opportunity for both student-athletes and fans.
"The Varsity Club Day is a great way for student-athletes to show their appreciation to the Varsity Club donors for all of their generous donations to our programs," Tameris said. "They help make Indiana Athletics what it is today and it's a nice way to give a big `thanks.' Plus, it's a lot of fun and a wonderful atmosphere."
