Varsity Club Hits $100 Million Mark

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - When Ken Grandstaff made his annual donation through his football season ticket application on March 13, it marked a memorable milestone for the IU Varsity Club. A Wabash, Ind., native and donor since 1991, the funds raised from Grandstaff's ticket application increased the total amount of dollars received by the Varsity Club since 1954 to more than $100 million.
The milestone was reached through the generosity and cooperation of the thousands of loyal donors who has supported the IU Department of Athletics and its programs throughout the years.
"Over the last 50+ years, loyal IU fans and friends have provided thousands of opportunities for student-athletes to attend this wonderful university through their generous contributions to the IU Varsity Club," Associate Athletic Director for Development and Director of the Varsity Club Scott Dolson said.
The IU Varsity Club was formed in 1954 to serve as the fundraising arm of the department of athletics. The primary responsibility of the Varsity Club is to raise money, through private donations, to pay for the scholarships of IU student-athletes across all 24 varsity sports. These contributions are directly applied to the tuition, room and board, books, fees and miscellaneous expenses for hundreds of student-athletes.
Varsity Club members receive an array of benefits, ranging from the accumulation of Priority Points for the opportunity to purchase season tickets to football and men's basketball games, tax deductions, preferred parking for football and men's basketball games, invitations to special athletic events, window decals and membership recognition cards.
