Parking Changes on Game Days

At the January 13th men's basketball game, many of you may have noticed the hodgepodge of orange barrels, red barricades and yellow construction tape used to rope off most of the parking lot south of Gladstein Fieldhouse. These temporary measures will become a permanent construction fence in the coming days, as we prepare for actual construction to begin on the Basketball Development Center (BDC).
The BDC construction fence will cause the loss of nearly 600 parking spots and necessitate the rerouting of some game day traffic. Last October, your parking pass was sent to you with a letter that previewed these changes. However, we wanted to refresh everyone on the changing procedures.
Perhaps the most noticeable change will occur at Gate 14, along North Fee Lane. The construction fence impacts many of the parking spots that are accessed by Gate 14. Only about 200 spots remain in the most southern portion of the lot along 17th Street. So, once these spots are filled, Gate 14 will close. This means that donors with a designated parking spot directly south of Assembly Hall will have to use Gate 2, along 17th Street for entry and exit. Changes will remain in effect through the remainder of this season.
With the construction fence going up, chatter about the Basketball Development Center is growing. The IU Athletic Department can't wait to turn this 67,000 square foot, state-of-the-art venue over to our men's and women's basketball programs. The facility will feature two, regulation-sized courts, a strength development area, team meeting space, and coaches' offices. The BDC grew out of a mission to improve student-welfare; it will do just that by encouraging skill development, enhancing recruiting abilities, and celebrating the IU basketball tradition that has become synonymous with Indiana University.
To close, as with any game day, we encourage donors to arrive early. We stress this recommendation now more than ever, as we enter this time of construction. Your patience and cooperation with us and Andy Frain representatives is greatly appreciated.
