BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Redshirt sophomore Angel Escobedo continued his undefeated season on Sunday, improving to 20-0 with a 5-1 win over Penn State's No. 10 Mark McKnight. Andrae Hernandez and Joe Fagiano also earned victories in Indiana's 25-9 setback against the Nittany Lions.
The match began with the 174-pound bout and a 7-0 lead for Penn State as they seized wins in the first two contests. Fagiano then shutout Jack Decker in the 197-pound match, 4-0, to put the Hoosiers on the board.
After a loss in the heavyweight match, the cousins from Griffith, Indiana trimmed the IU deficit to a lone point at 10-9 with back-to-back decisions at the 125 and 133-pound weight classes. Escobedo's triumph over McKnight moved him to 2-0 in the Big Ten. Hernandez followed suit with a decision of his own, besting Tim Hass by a score of 6-4. The remainder of the bouts went in favor of Penn State, however, resulting in the 25-9 final score.
