The All-American Football Foundation honored late IU Head Football Coach Terry Hoeppner on April 21st in South Bend, IN. Coach Hep was named as their National Coach of the Year at their annual dinner. Assistant Director for Development Mark Deal represented the Varsity Club at the event and hosted a table. Guests of the Varsity Club included donors Tom Elkin, Maury Hurwich, Rick Rice, and Jeff Wells. Former IU players Frank Canarecci (`67 Rose Bowl), John Roggeman (`79 Holiday Bowl), and Larry Luther (`87 Peach Bowl) rounded out the table. IU Athletic Director Rick Greenspan and current Head Football Coach Bill Lynch accepted the award and plaque on behalf of the Hoeppner family. In accepting the award, Greenspan remarked that Coach Hep made more of an impact in two short years than most do in a lifetime.
The Bloomington community continues to remember Coach Hep. On Saturday, May 10th, the "Coach Hep Cancer Challenge" will take place on the IU campus. Attendees have the choice of participating in a 2K Family Walk, 5K Run, 40K Cycle, 100K Cycle, or 40K Cycle/5K Run. As the organization's website states, "Don't Quit. When it comes to funding cancer research and treatment, we can't give up. You can help." For more information or to pre-register for this event, visit www.CoachHepCancerChallenge.org.
