Matt Powless improved to 5-0 on the season

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - For the fourth consecutive season, IU Wrestling opened its dual match season with a shutout at Wabash College. On Thursday night (Nov. 18) Indiana blanked the Little Giants, 44-0, on the road; picking up four pins and a tech fall in the process.

Matt Ortega, Mitchell Richey, Ryan Konz and Ricky Alcala all not only earned a fall, but did so quickly in the first period. It marked the second pin of the season for Ortega and Konz, and the first career stick for Richey and Alcala while donning the IU singlet.

Meanwhile, the most impressive performance of the night may have come from Matt Powless is the 197-pound bout. Powless racked up 12 takedowns before the second period expired, averaging one takedown nearly every 12 seconds en route to his 26-11 technical fall. With the win, he improved to 5-0 on the season.
