Student-Athletes Participate in Annual Thank-a-thon Event

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Nearly 150 student-athletes participated in the annual Varsity Club's Thank-a-thon on Thursday, April 7 in the Press Room at Assembly Hall. This annual event is an opportunity for student-athletes to express their appreciation for generous donations to support athletic scholarships via phone calls and hand-written letters.
Student-athletes participated in two 75-minute sessions. During each session, 32 phones were used, with an additional 50+ student athletes writing thank-you notes. In total, 777 thank-you calls were made and a record number of 2,004 notes were written. Of the phone calls made, student-athletes spoke with 264 donors and left 513 appreciation messages for donors.
"It's great to be able to personally thank our donors," said Mary Chaudoin, a junior on the IU volleyball team. "We are all so thankful for our scholarships. It's great to have all of the student-athletes involved in this event."
Katie Griswold, a senior on the field hockey team, was pleasantly surprised to find her marketing professor on her donor call list. "It's really fun to be able to thank one of my actual professors," Griswold said. "I respect him even more for being a professor who supports IU Athletics. Maybe I'll even study a little harder for the next test!"
In addition to student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators also participated in the evening, including Felisha Legette-Jack, Head Coach for Women's Basketball; Stephanie Siler, Director of Operations for Women's Basketball; Mark Deal, Associate Director for Football Operations, Kelsey Cronin, Director of Operations for Volleyball; and Paul Koncir, Assistant Coach for Volleyball.
