ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Matt Powless wrote his name into the Indiana Wrestling Record Books Friday night, notching the 111th win of his career. That total cracks the school's all-time top-10, pulling him even with Kevin Stanley (1997-2001) for 10th most. The milestone victory came in a losing effort for the Hoosiers (6-3, 0-3 Big Ten), however, dropping a 33-6 dual at #9 Michigan (4-2, 3-1).
Powless improved to 22-3 overall in this season, 9-0 in dual matches and 3-0 in Big Ten action. His 5-3 winner over 15th-ranked Max Huntley marks the fourth `W' over a nationally-ranked foe during the 2011-12 campaign. Powless himself, is currently slotted fourth in the Intermat national rankings.
True freshman Luke Sheridan was also victorious in Ann Arbor. The Concord, Calif., native recorded the only takedown of the bout, coming away with a 3-1 decision over Chris Heald. Sheridan is now 9-8 on the year and earned his first career conference victory.
