Walsh Places Fourth at Midlands

EVANSTON, Ill. - Indiana's Taylor Walsh made his way to the Midlands stand this weekend, placing fourth at the elite amateur wrestling tournament of the regular season. The redshirt sophomore was seeded 10th at 157 pounds and bested three fellow seeded wrestlers, including the second-, seventh- and 11th-seeded foes. The Hoosiers finished 19th out of 56 schools in the final team standings.

Walsh's 5-2 tournament improved his season record to 21-6. He added a pair of pins and now owns 21 falls in his career. His final Midlands victory was not only his eighth pin of the year but also marked his 50th career win overall.
Heavyweight Adam Chalfant also advanced to the championship quarterfinals before dropping a decision to eventual champion, Chad Hanke of Oregon State. Chalfant, ranked 10th nationally, was then forced to bow out of the competition with a medical forfeit. Luke Sheridan was a multi-bout winner as well, each tallying two wins and a fall before being knocked out of the tourney.
Redshirt freshman Eric Roach (141 lbs.) and Alexander Gregory (149 lbs.) eachcontributed a bout triumph to the IU team total as well.
Ryan LeBlanc, ranked 13th at 165 pounds, did not enter the Midlands due to illness.
The Hoosiers are done with tournament-style action until the postseason, jumping back into the Big Ten dual match campaign on Jan. 13, hosting Minnesota at 2 p.m. ET.
