Several past, present and future Indiana University swimmers went up against some of the best the world has to offer at the USA Swimming Indianapolis Grand Prix, held March 29-31 at the IU Natatorium.
Besides the Hoosiers, other swimmers in this meet included Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Amanda Beard and Dara Torres.
Former Hoosier and NCAA Champion Ben Hesen put up the top finish among swimmers with IU ties, placing tied for seventh in the 100-meter backstroke. Hesen posted a time of 56.24. He was the 2008 NCAA Champion in the 100-yard backstroke.
Hoosier freshman Lauren Jordan has a solid meet, led by a 10th-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle, clocking in at 8:49.43. Jordan also placed 18th in the 400-meter freestyle (4:18.72) and 24th in the 200-meter freestyle (2:06.40).
Junior Ryan Downey found himself among the top-10 finishers in the 1,500-meter freestyle, placing ninth in 15:59.40. Former Hoosier John Kevin Koehler was 16th (16:10.03) and sophomore Patrick Scally was 17th (16:11.92).
Other top-25 finishers at the meet include freshman Ian Boggs in the 200-meter breaststroke (22nd; 2:19.24), junior Nicholas Schwab in the 400-meter freestyle (19th; 4:00.47), John Schnittker in the 200-meter freestyle (15th; 1:53.53), Schwab in the 200-meter freestyle (19th; 1:53.95) and Boggs in the 100-meter breaststroke (21st; 1:04.65).
