Varsity Club to Participate in Giving Tuesday on December 3

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- In collaboration with the IU Foundation and Indiana University, the IU Varsity Club will participate in Giving Tuesday on December 3rd. Giving Tuesday a national campaign to make the Tuesday after Thanksgiving the philanthropic equivalent of Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Launched in 2012, the Giving Tuesday campaign aims to create a national day of giving that also serves to kick off a season of giving during the holidays each year.
Leading up to Giving Tuesday, the Varsity Club will utilize social media to draw attention to the event in the hopes that loyal donors will choose December 3rd as a special day to support IU student-athletes each year.
"Giving Tuesday is a unique way for alumni and supporters to come together to support the University on a single day," said Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship Chris Minderman. "Our donors are passionate about supporting student-athlete success. That's why we're really looking forward to involving our donors to making Giving Tuesday an annual tradition."
"The timing of Giving Tuesday also gives donors an additional opportunity to make gifts before the end of the calendar year to take advantage of applicable tax benefits."
Those who wish to participate in Giving Tuesday may make an online donation to support the Varsity Club. Supporters can also help spread the word about Giving Tuesday by using the GivingTuesday and GivetoIU hashtags on Facebook and Twitter. Sample posts may be found on IU's Giving Tuesday website.
