Tournament: Sagamore Fall Preview |
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The final round of the Sagamore Fall Preview at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind., was rained out on Tuesday. Most of the teams were out on the course but with the amount of rain the course received overnight and then again Tuesday morning, it became unplayable and play had to be stopped.
As a result, the final scores following the two rounds on Monday will be the official results
for the tournament. That gives the Indiana men's golf team a seventh place finish out of the 14 teams competing with a team score of 596 (299-297).
Freshman Christian Fairbanks registered a opening round 75, including four birdies, and then followed that up with a round of Even par 72 for a total score of 147 and a tie for 12th on the individual leaderboard. In his second round, he went out in 2-under with eight pars and one eagle and then came in with 2-over par 38. The 12th place finish is the best of his young career.
"Christian had a great tournament for us," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "With the exception of a couple swings yesterday, he really played well. He really had a chance to make this a special tournament, so we hope that he can carry that confidence over to the tournament this week in Orlando."
Senior Andrew Fogg, making his season debut, finished with a total score of 149 and a tie for 20th place. It is his best finish since a T19 finish at the NYX Hoosier Invitational last spring. Overall, it is his third career Top 20 finish.
Junior Max Kollin finished tied for 26th place, his first Top 30 finish of the year, after posting a score of 150 over his two rounds on Monday.
Senior Nicholas Grubnich collected a tie for 38th with his score of 152 and freshman Matt Weber posted a total score of 157 over his two rounds.
Competing as an individual in the tournament is freshman Brendon Doyle, who carded scores of 79 and 82 and finished tied for 70th place.
Next up on the IU schedule is a trip to Lake Nona Golf Course in Orlando, Fla., to take part in the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, which runs from Oct. 19-21.
