ORLANDO -- Indiana opened play at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Sunday with a 290 (+2), the best team score of the season for the Hoosiers. Freshman Christian Fairbanks continued his strong recent play with the best round of his collegiate career to this point, posting a 3-under par 69 to sit in a tie for 16th individually.
In one of the elite tournaments of the season - 11 of the 15 teams are ranked inside the top 50 in the country - Fairbanks was steady all day. He finished his first nine holes at 2-under par after birdies on holes five and eight. He moved to 4-under par after birdies on 11 and 13 but a bogey on 16 left him at 3-under par to finish his round.
Andrew Fogg got off to a rocky start, sitting a 4-over par after six holes. But just as quickly as he got into trouble, he reeled off four straight birdies to get back to even. He finished his round with a bogey on 15 to post a score of 1-over par 73 and a tie for 48th.
Max Kollin and Matt Weber
both posted rounds of 2-over par 74 and are tied for 53rd while Nicholas Grubnich logged an 81 in his first round and is tied for 74th.
The Hoosiers will start the second round on Monday at 9:10 a.m. going off the 10th tee. Click the "Live Scoring" link above to follow along.
