BLOOMINGTON, Ind -- Men’s Soccer goalkeeper Colin Webb wanted a school that excelled at athletics and academics. What he found at Indiana was a family. Learn more about Webb and why IU is the right place for him.
Sport and Position: Men's Soccer, Goalkeeper
Year and Major: Sophomore, Business
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Q: What made you choose Indiana University?
A: When I was looking at schools, I wanted the best mix of athletics and academics that I could find -- that defines the soccer program and the Kelley School of Business here at Indiana. My decision to attend Indiana extended beyond those primary factors and lies in the culture of the soccer program. When people outside the program talk about Indiana soccer, they talk about the tradition and success the program has seen historically. But those involved in the soccer program talk about the family it represents. To be a part of that family, coupled with my first two factors, is why I chose to attend IU.
Q: What do you find most attractive about Indiana University?
A: I think the most attractive aspects of attending Indiana University is the comradery in the athletic community and all the incredible resources we have available to us. These two things combined give me the confidence that I can be better everyday.
Q: What was the biggest adjustment for you when coming to Indiana University?
A: The biggest adjustment for me coming to Indiana from San Diego was definitely the change in weather and the fact that winter actually exists in most other parts of the country.
Q: How would you interpret the Spirit of Indiana?
A: The Spirit of Indiana encapsulates everything it means to be Hoosier, whether you are a student-athlete or not. Whether it’s the game day excitement or community you experience at various events, there is something different about Indiana.
Q: What does it mean to you to wear the Cream and Crimson, and represent Indiana University?
A: When you put on the Cream and Crimson as an Indiana soccer player, it means you are dedicated to success at the highest level, knowing the expectation that tradition has defined for you.
Q: Do you have any special talents?
A: A lot of people don’t know that I worked with a 4x4 race team on the fabrication of one of their vehicles. They compete in a class called Ultra 4, which is a mix between high speed racing, similar to Baja, and slow, more technical rock crawling.
Q: As a scholarship athlete, how do you feel you benefit most by the aid you receive from our Varsity Club donors?
A: Without the Varsity Club and the aid I receive, I wouldn’t be able to attend IU. The Varsity Club and the work they do to help athletes gives me the opportunity to excel athletically and academically.
Q: If you had the opportunity to meet the donor that provided your scholarship, what you like to say to them?
A: I want to thank them for giving me the opportunity to play for the best soccer program in the country and have a very solid back-up plan with a degree from the Kelley School of Business.
