Bloomington, Ind. -- Recently the Indiana University Varsity Club had the opportunity to speak with Scott Effross, a sophomore on the IU baseball team. Scott discussed his experiences adjusting to college life and his favorite moments from last season.
Hometown: Twinsburg, OH
Position: Pitcher
Q. Why did you choose IU?
A: I originally came to the prospect camp. That's how the coaches found me. I had a couple different schools from which to choose, but Indiana really stuck out in my mind. It was a combination of solid academics, a solid baseball program, and I really felt I would fit in.
Q: What do you find most attractive about Indiana University?
A: From a baseball standpoint, I love that I have forty of my best friends on the team and I'll always have those guys to rely on. From an academics standpoint, I love going to class and learning new things every day. It's been great so far, really fulfilling.
Q: What was the biggest adjustment for you coming to Indiana?
A: There were a lot of adjustments, but balancing my course load and being on the baseball team has been the biggest adjustment. It's like having two full-time jobs. In high school, you have practice after school, but you have a lot of free time on your hands. In college, you're either doing something for baseball or something for class.
Q: How does your family feel about you being at IU?
A: Oh, they love it here! They came down about six or seven times last season and can't seem to get enough of Bloomington. I can understand how comfortable they are with me being here because it's such a great school and great community.
Q: What was your favorite moment from last season?
A: It's hard to say one exact moment was my favorite, but I specifically remember when Tim O'Conner made that last out to send us to Omaha. I still get goose bumps when I think about that moment. It was unbelievable, a dream come true.
Q: How has this opportunity to play D-1 baseball and attend IU changed you as an individual?
A: Well, last year was by far the best year of my life. I wouldn't trade this opportunity for anything. To be able to go to a prestigious university and to play baseball is unreal. I am very fortunate.
Q: If you had the opportunity to meet the donors that provided your scholarship, what would you say to them?
A: I couldn't thank them enough! It's been an absolutely unreal experience for the short time I've been here. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I really appreciate those who provided me with the opportunity to come to Indiana University and to grow both as a student and as an athlete.
