INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Indiana Rowing program opened 2014 NCAA Championship action on Friday, May 30, at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis with the First Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 boats advancing to A/B Semifinals on Saturday. IU's Second Varsity 8 boat advanced to Saturday's C/D semifinal.
"I am extremely proud of our whole team today," said head coach Steve Peterson. "Each time the crews hit the water, they are really going out and giving it their all. The fact that we have two crews now racing as one of the top 12 crews in the nation is amazing."
The Hoosiers' First Varsity 8 finished third in their morning heat, taking over Harvard (4th, 6:32.20) in the final stretch with a time of 6:31.46. In the Second Varsity 8, Indiana finished fourth with a time of 6:47.14, and in the Varsity 4 heat, the Hoosiers took third with a time of 7:24.72.
In Friday's afternoon repechage, Indiana's 1V8 took second with a time of 6:30.42 to earn a spot in Saturday's 8:50 a.m. ET semifinal. The Hoosiers will take on USC, Virginia, Cal, Ohio State and Washington. The Hoosiers' Varsity 4 crew won it's afternoon repechage with a time of 7:23.78. Indiana will face Michigan, USC, Wisconsin, Cal and Washington in the 10:20 a.m. A/B semifinal. IU's Second Varsity 8 finished third in the afternoon race with a time of 6:43.84. The Hoosiers will take on Northeastern, Louisville and UMass in the C/D semifinal at 9:10 a.m.
"I am also extremely proud of the fact that this is a true team effort," said Peterson. "Everyone is cheering each other on and doing everything they can to help the team. I couldn't ask more of our athletes."

"We are facing some really tough competition tomorrow, but our goal is the same as it has been all year - go as fast as we can," Peterson added. "I think the athletes are very excited and ready for the races. It is going to be another amazing day for Indiana Rowing."
