Doyle Leads Indiana At Wolf Run Intercollegiate

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- The Indiana men's golf team played well under very difficult scoring conditions on Sunday, posting a team score of 303 - the fifth-best score of the day - to finish in 11th place overall at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate with a total team score of 925.
"We took some steps in the right direction today,” Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "Our final round is more indicative of what we are right now, as a team. The conditions were very difficult and I thought we handled ourselves much better. We are going to take some positives from this, especially the final round, as we move forward."
The best individual round of the day came from freshman Brendon Doyle, who played his first 13 holes in 2-under par before finishing with a 1-over par round of 72. The round looks even better after doing it with winds blowing 20-25 mph throughout the round with greens running extremely fast. It left him in a tie for 28th place individually at 16-over par for the tournament (229).
Senior Nicholas Grubnich came in tied for 34th for the tournament after his final round score of 78 left him with a tournament total of 231 (+18). Junior Max Kollin registered his best round of the tournament on Sunday's final round, carding a 75 to finish the tournament at 20-over par and a tie for 48th place.
Freshman Matt Weber logged his third straight round of 78 on Sunday, leaving him in a tie for 52nd with a total score of 234. Sophomore Will Seger's 80 in the final round put him in a tie for 66th place individually with a score 239.
Among the three Hoosiers competing as individuals, Andrew Fogg closed with a 73 on Sunday, moving him up to a tie for 30th place. Andrew Havill finished in a tie for 52nd place while Christian Fairbanks ended up in 85th with a score of 258.
Illinois captured the team championship with a total team score for the tournament of 859 (+7) and Brian Campbell (ILL) recorded his third round under par with a 70 on Sunday for a total score of 209 (-4).
Indiana's next tournament will be Oct. 23-24 at the Sagamore Preview in Noblesville, Ind.
