Top 5 Finish For Grubnich At Northern
9/7/2014 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
"Grubnich played extremely solid all day long," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "It was a special round that had the potential to be even better. The greens were lightening fast so what he was able to do in those conditions one of the best rounds I have seen on that course in the years we have been going up there."
Grubnich's round of 69 was the second-best round on Sunday, trailing Boo Timko's (Ohio State) score of 67, and tied the career low round for Grubnich. He started on the back nine and went out in 2-under with two birdies and seven pars. Then after posting bogey on his 10th hole, he birdied three of the next four holes before finishing with four straight pars. He finished with a tournament total score of 218 (+2) and a tie for fourth place.
Freshman Brendon Doyle finished his first collegiate appearance with a solid T38 showing after a 2-over 74 on Sunday to give him a total score of 231 (+15) for the tournament.
Sophomore Will Seger closed with a 79 on Sunday and a tournament score of 237 to tie for 58th place. Christian Fairbanks checked in with a 81 on Sunday and 68th place overall for the tournament while junior Max Kollin placed 72nd for the tournament.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Andrew Havill wrapped up the weekend in a tie for 32nd place after a 76 in his final round.
As a team, the Hoosiers finished in 11th place with a three-round score of 927, with their final round team score of 303 serving as their best round of the weekend.
The schedule sends the Hoosiers to Olympia Fields CC for the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational next weekend, a tournament that annually attracts some of the best collegiate golf teams from across the country.
