Hoosiers Come Up Short at No. 7 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Indiana volleyball team won the first set, but could not carry on the momentum as they dropped a four set match at No. 7 Ohio State on Sunday at St. John Arena by scores of 25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 18-25.
Senior Amelia Anderson led the Hoosiers with 12 kills and became the 18th player in IU school history to reach 1,000 career kills. Anderson now has 285 for the season and 1,008 for her career.
Senior middle blocker Awele Nwaeze recorded 11 kills and hit .440 for the Hoosiers (12-8, 2-6) and senior libero Courtney Harnish registered 14 digs.
Freshman Samantha Fogg had a career-high with 12 digs and served up an ace to become the sixth Indiana player to reach at least 10 aces this season.
After Ohio State evened the match with a 25-18 set two win, the Hoosiers got out to a 15-9 lead in set three. Ohio State responded with an 8-2 run to even the set 17-17. After ties at 18 and 19 the Hoosiers took a 21-19 lead on a kill from junior Megan Tallman and an attack error from the Buckeyes.
Ohio State came back with three points to take a 22-21 lead and force an Indiana timeout. The Hoosiers came out of the break with back-to-back kills to take a 23-22 lead and forced an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes closed the set with three kills to take the set 25-23 and go up 2-1 in the match.
In set four the Hoosiers got behind 16-10 and couldn't get closer then four points the rest of the way as the Buckeyes took set four, 25-18 to win the match 3-1.
Up next the Hoosiers return home to host Illinois on Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET and host Northwestern on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET.
