BATTLING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue sits at a 8-8-1 record, including a 3-6-1 mark in Big Ten play. Conference wins include Illinois, Nebraska and Maryland. The Boilermakers are most recently coming off a 1-0 overtime loss to Michigan on Saturday. Offensively, Purdue has been led by seven goals and five assists apiece from Hannah Leinert and Maddy Williams. In total, 10 different Boilermakers have netted at least one goal. Erika Yohn had been the primary goalkeeper for Purdue for the first part of the season, however Jordan Ginther has since taken the reins. In six games played, Ginther has a 1-3-1 record with 22 saves and a 1.01 goals against average.
GOLDEN BOOT UP FOR GRABS
IU trails in the series, 4-12-3. However, the Hoosiers have won three straight against the Boilermakers, the longest active winning streak against a Big Ten opponent. Last year, Indiana picked up a 1-0 victory after Veronica Ellis knocked in the gamewinner in the 49th minute. Goalkeeper Sarah Stone registered nine saves in the shutout. In 2012, the last time the game was played in Bloomington, Indiana shutout Purdue, 3-0. In 2013, Purdue jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute but the Hoosiers responded with a pair of second half scores for a 2-1 win.
The Hoosiers participated in the Boilermaker Challenge Cup earlier this season in West Lafayette. After picking up wins against Missouri and Baylor, the Hoosiers were crowned champions of the tournament with freshman Cassidy Blacha and Stone being named MVPs.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers traveled to East Lansing, Mich. on Sunday to face Michigan State. The game was largely marked by penalty kicks as the first half featured three goals off PKs. After MSU was awarded two in the first 18 minutes, senior Jessie Bujouves converted one for Indiana in the 26th minute after a Spartan defender was called for a handball in the box. MSU added a third goal in the 82nd minute after a score on a corner to make it 3-1 in favor of the Spartans.
SENIOR NIGHT
Prior to Wednesday's game, seven Indiana seniors will be recognized for their careers in Cream and Crimson - Emily Basten, Jessie Bujouves, Kailee Feinstein, Katie Greulich, Kayleigh Steigerwalt, Rachel Romero and Sarah Stone. Below is a brief summary of their time at IU:
Emily Basten: After transferring from Central Michigan for her senior campaign, Basten has started in all 18 games for the Hoosiers this season as a defender. The Hoffman Estates, Ill. native is part of the backline that registered a shutout streak of 463 minutes earlier this season, which ranks second in Indiana program history.
Jessie Bujouves: Has led the team in scoring the past two seasons and has recorded 12 career goals and seven assists in her four seasons. Bujouves is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week in 2013. She has played in 76 games for Indiana, starting in 60.
Kailee Feinstein: She has appeared in 51 games at Indiana, making 19 starts, including 15 straight this season. A midfielder from Irvine, California, she registered her first career point on an assist to Mykayla Brown in Indiana's 4-1 win against George Mason on September 5, 2014. She has put up four shots for the Hoosiers this year, including a pair of on-goal attempts.
Katie Greulich: Made her first career start in goal last season against UC Irvine, earning a victory and recording two saves in 96 minutes of play. A 2014 Academic All-Big Ten selection, she also appeared in goal for the second half against Georgia Southern last year, shutting out the Eagles in the half. This season, she saw action against No. 18 Minnesota on Sept. 27.
Rachel Romero: Has played in 36 games for the Hoosiers, including 17 games in 2015 with six starts. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, she recorded a shot against No. 8 Penn State last year and a pair of shots in her freshman campaign.
Kayleigh Steigerwalt: Has started 36 games and played 57 in three seasons. During her sophomore season, she scored five goals and tallied seven assists, which is tied for seventh-most in a season in IU history. Two of those assists came in Indiana's 5-3 win against Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament, leading to her selection on the conference's All-Tournament Team. This season, she has played in 18 games and made 14 starts. She assisted on Marissa Borschke's game-winning goal against Missouri on August 28.
Sarah Stone: This season, she ranks second in the conference with a career-high 91 saves and has registered six shutouts, bringing her career total to 14, which is just one behind the Indiana program record. In addition, her 199 career saves ranks fourth in IU history and her 1.48 goals against average sits eighth in the Hoosier record book. So far this year, she has recorded 57 saves in Big Ten play, which ties her own record for second-most in school history.
