BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Allison Hammond led the Hoosiers with 16 kills and the Indiana volleyball team served up 13 aces to defeat Michigan State in four sets (26-24, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20) on Saturday at University Gym.
The Hoosiers (15-13, 5-11) beat Michigan State for the first time since Oct. 26, 2013.
Senior Amelia Anderson posted 15 kills and junior setter Megan Tallman guided the offense with 45 assists. Junior Taylor Lebo dug 20 balls and tallied four aces in the match.
The middle blockers for the Hoosiers combined for 15 kills with eight from senior Chante George and seven from senior Awele Nwaeze. Nwaeze also tallied five blocks. Freshman Elizabeth Asdell contributed eight kills for Indiana.
The 13 service aces tied the second most in IU school history in the rally scoring era and are the most aces the Hoosiers have totaled this season.
"This was a big win for us," IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said. "We have been working on really going for it and taking chances and tonight we did that. I am proud of this team and proud of their fight."
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday Nov. 18.
