IU Swimmers Strong on Day One at Winter Nationals

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Indiana swimming had a strong start at the AT&T Winter National Championships on Thursday in Federal Way, Washington.
In the women's 400 LC freestyle, IU's Kennedy Goss qualified for the "A" final with an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 4:13.59. In the evening final, the sophomore finished eighth with a mark of 4:16.87 – another Olympic Trials mark.
Miranda Tucker had a great swim in the "B" final of the 200 LC IM on Thursday night. Tucker qualified for the "B" final with an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 2:15.94. The freshman was even better in the finals, finishing third with an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 2:15.41, ranking her second all-time in school history.
In the men's 200 LC IM, Blake Pieroni placed sixth in the "C" final with a time of 2:05.51. Pieroni qualified for the evening session with an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 2:04.10.
In the prelims of the 50 LC freestyle, IU's Anze Tavcar placed 30th overall with an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 23.15. Tavcar's time ranks him fifth all-time in Indiana history in the event. Blake Pieroni tied for 47th overall with a mark of 23.38.
In the prelims of the 200 LC IM, Lilly King placed 31st overall with a time of 2:18.95.
Indiana swimming alumna Lindsay Vrooman had an impressive display in the 400 LC freestyle, qualifying first overall for the "A" final with a time of 4:08.68. Vrooman placed fifth overall in the final with a mark of 4:09.00.
The AT&T Winter National Championships will continue on Friday in Federal Way, Washington with prelims at 12 p.m. ET. Live results can be found at USASwimming.org.
