PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Indiana opened its 121st season of baseball and first ever under head coach Chris Lemonis with a 2-1 series win at No. 18 Stanford, taking consecutive games on Friday (4-2) and Saturday (4-3) at the Sunken Diamond.
IU'S WEEKEND NOTABLES...
-In the past six meetings with Stanford dating back to last year's NCAA Regional, the teams have split wins (3-3), have each scored 26 runs and have seen winning runs in the fifth, ninth, ninth, seventh, 10th and seventh innings.
-Junior Nick Ramos leads the team with a .429 batting average through two games and is second on the team with three runs batted in. His slugging percentage (.571) and on-base percentage (.545) also lead the Hoosiers.
-Senior Casey Rodrigue's four RBI are a team-high for Indiana.
-Nine pitchers saw action for Indiana: Thomas Belcher and Scott Effross picked up wins, Ryan Halstead recorded two saves in IU's wins to extend his IU career record to 25, two pitchers started in the regular season for the first time (Effross and Jake Kelzer) and two made their IU debuts (Austin Foote and Brian Hobbie). Luke Harrison led the way with four strikeouts in his two innings of play Friday. IU didn't give up a walk in its first two games and had just two the entire weekend.
-Indiana had won eight straight road games dating back to last season leading up to today and 15 of its last 16. The Hoosiers are 35-18 in true road games since the start of 2013 and 95-31 overall (.748).
