BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Taylor Walsh and sophomore Nate Jackson will represent the Indiana wrestling team at the 2015 NCAA Championships March 19-21 at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Mo.
Walsh, (34-5), who is the Indiana all-time record holder in career pins with 69 earned the No. 6 seed in the 165 lbs weight class. Walsh finished third at the Big Ten Championships and ranks fourth on the IU all-time list for career wins with 128.
Jackson holds a 27-11 mark on the season and finished in ninth-place at the Big Ten Championships.
PIN KING
Redshirt senior Taylor Walsh is continuing his impressive pinning ways. After leading the country last season and setting an Indiana single-season school record with 26 pins, Walsh has 22 pins this season. With 22 pins, Walsh has the second most in a Hoosier season and is currently the Division I leader. He only trails himself - 26 (2014) for most in a Hoosier season.
After four wins at the Big Ten Championships, Walsh now has 128 career wins. This moved the 165-pounder into fourth on the all-time Indiana wins list.
This season Walsh became Indiana's all-time pin leader. At the end of the 2013-14 season, Walsh was tied with Viktor Sveda (1999-2002) with 47 pins. In his first bout of this season, Walsh captured the record and is only expanding his lead in the record books. Currently he has 69 pins in his career.
SOUND SOPHOMORE
Nate Jackson is having an outstanding (redshirt) sophomore season -- he has earned podium spots in three tournaments. The 174-pounder was champion at the Keystone Classic (Penn.), runner-up at the Harold Nichols Open (Iowa State) and finished in eighth at the Midlands Championships (Northswestern).
In 16 out of 27 of Jackson's victories, he has won by at least five points (10 major decisions, one technical fall), outscoring opponents 184-65 in such matches.
In the national rankings, he was ranked as high as No. 13 (WIN Magazine) for the 174-pound weight class.
ESPN will expand its TV and digital coverage of the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on March 19-21 by televising all six sessions and carrying every match on ESPN3. The entire tournament will be available on WatchESPN.
