Walsh Advances to Quarterfinals

St. Louis, Mo. - Senior Taylor Walsh won his first two matches to open competition at the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Scottrade Center on Thursday. Walsh will compete in the quarterfinals, which start tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. ET.
Sophomore Nate Jackson went 1-1 in the first session, but came back to win his first round consolation match with a 5-3 decision over John Staudenmayer (UNC).
In the first session of the day, Jackson (174 lbs.) won his opening match with an 11-4 decision over Ethan Smith from Utah Valley. Jackson next squared off against No. 3 seed Michael Evans and led the match 1-0 through the first two periods, before coming up short 4-1.
Walsh, the No. 6 seed at 165 lbs. led his opening match from the beginning and came away with a 6-5 decision against Dakota Friesth from Wyoming.
In his second match of the day, Walsh earned his 130th career victory with a 5-2 decision against Mike England from Missouri.
Walsh will now wrestle No. 3 seed Isaac Jordan (Wisconsin) in the quarterfinals in the morning session tomorrow, which starts at 11:00 a.m. ET. For Jackson, his next match will also be in the morning session, against Dominic Kastl (CP).
