ST. LOUIS - Senior Taylor Walsh had been to the national championships three times, but did not have an All-America honor for his work.
That has changed.
Walsh earned a 5-0 decision over Ethan Ramos (UNC) in his semifinal match at 165 lbs., to power his way to the national championship bout on Friday at the NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Scottrade Center.
Walsh (38-5) will be the first Hoosier since Angel Escobedo in 2008 to wrestle for a national championship, when he battles No. 1 seed Alex Dieringer (33-0) from Oklahoma State in the final tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The road to the final match started earlier in the day with a 4-3 decision against Big Ten foe and No. 3 seed Isaac Jordan, who Walsh came in with an 0-2 record against this season.
Walsh recorded his 131st victory of his career, which ranks fourth on the IU all-time list. Walsh is also the all-time leader in school history in pins with 69.
Sophomore Nate Jackson ended his run in the national championships with a 3-2 record and ended his season with a 30-13 overall record.
