IU Jumps Two Spots To Finish Fifth at Boilermaker

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Indiana men's golf team entered Sunday in seventh place at the Boilermaker Intercollegiate, but got another steady, solid team effort to record a team score of 295 on the day and finish in fifth place under windy and rainy conditions.
The Hoosiers' team score of 876 (288-293-295) for the weekend was just five strokes behind No. 38 Ohio State in fourth place and seven strokes behind Northwestern in third place.
Nicholas Grubnich finished his weekend with an even par round of 72 on Sunday, giving a total score of 217 (72-73-72; +1), which is his best score of the season. That score left him in a tie for 12th place on the individual leaderboard. The Crown Pointe, Indiana, native was 2-over par going into his final four holes, but he proceeded to finishi his round birdie-birdie-bogey-birdie to get back to even par.
Max Kollin continued his strong finish to the season with a steady round of 72 on Sunday, with his round featuring two birdies, one double bogey and 15 pars. He matched Grubnich with a total score of 217 (74-71-72; +1) and a tie for 12th place.
Sophomore Keegan Vea was inserted to the team lineup two weeks ago at the Mason Rudolph and has taken control the opportunity. He recorded his second top 26 finish in as many weeks after posting a score of 74 on Sunday to give him a total score of 220 (71-75-74; +4) and a tie for 26th place. Vea was 4-over par entering his final five holes but posted a pair of birdies to get back to 2-over par for the round.
Brendon Doyle, a freshman playing in his ninth tournament of the year, finished his weekend with a 77 on Sunday. That left his tournament score at 223 (72-74-77; +7) and a tie for 36th on the individual leaderboard.
The fifth IU golfer competing on the weekend was Matthew Weber, who struggled to an 84 on Sunday to give him a total score for the three rounds of 233 (73-76-84; +17) and a tie for 72nd place.
The tournament on the schedule is the Big Ten Championships, which takes place April 24-26 at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Indiana.
