The Hoosiers head to West Lafayette, Ind. this weekend to participate in the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. There, Indiana will face Missouri on Friday at 4 p.m. and Baylor on Sunday at 11 a.m.
MATCHING UP WITH MIZZOU
The Tigers are off to a 1-0-1 start after picking up a 2-0 shutout victory against TCU in the season opener and drawing with SMU, 1-1, on Sunday. Three different Tigers scored over the weekend - Reagan Russell, Candace Johnson and Savannah Trujillo. Kelsey Dossey allowed just one goal while earning four saves in the net for Mizzou.
Friday's meeting with Missouri marks the third-straight Indiana opponent that participated in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The Tigers advanced to the second round before falling to Washington.
The Tigers and Hoosiers have met five times previously, with the most recent decision a 2-0 Mizzou win in 2005.
BATTLING BAYLOR
Baylor dropped both games of their weekend opener as the Bears fell to USF in double overtime, 2-1, and to Michigan State, 2-1. McKenna Martin and Amanda Hoglund both scored for Baylor. Rebecca Gartner and Sara Martinson split time in the goal, with Gartner getting the majority of the minutes.
This is only the second time Indiana has played Baylor, with the first matchup resulting in a 1-1 tie in 2006.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana opened the season last weekend with the Hoosier Classic and played host to No. 13 Virginia Tech and SIU-Edwardsville. After surrendering a pair of goals in the first 18 minutes of action to the Hokies' Murielle Tiernan, the Indiana defense settled in and did not allow another score. On the other end of the field, senior Jessie Bujouves got the Hoosiers on the board in the 79th minute. Freshman Caroline Dreher recorded her first career point as she picked up the assist on the goal.
On Sunday, the defense set the tone against SIUE. The teams battled to a scoreless draw in double overtime. Combined with the efforts on Friday against the Hokies, the Indiana defense has posted a 182-minute scoreless streak.
SMITH'S SHOTS
Sophomore Kayla Smith led Indiana in shots in both games of the Hoosier Classic. On Friday, she put up six shots with three of them being on target. On Sunday, Smith added another pair.
CORNER CHANCES
After Virginia Tech held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks on Friday, Indiana flipped the script on Sunday and posted a 7-3 advantage in corners against SIUE. Three of those opportunities came in the first eight minutes of action against the Cougars.
WHAT ELSE IS IN STORE FOR 2015?
After play wraps up in the Boilermaker Challenge Cup, the Hoosiers will travel to LSU to take on Middle Tennessee State and the Tigers. Including the matchup with Missouri, seven 2015 Indiana opponents participated in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. In addition, six opponents received a ranking in this week's NSCAA Top 25.
NEW FACES
The Hoosiers welcome eight new players to the roster in 2015, including seven freshmen in Abby Allen, Bristal Hadley-Mautino, Hanna Johnson, Maya Piper, Caroline Dreher, Cassidy Blacha and Justine Lynn. In addition, senior Emily Basten joins the Hoosiers after transferring from Central Michigan.
TOP RETURNERS
With the 8 newcomers, there are 16 returners from the 2014 squad. Bujouves, who led the Hoosiers in goals last season with eight, returns to help pace the offense for her senior campaign. Kayla Smith, who ranked second behind Bujouves with nine points last season is also on track for another productive year.
On the defensive end, GK Sarah Stone is back in goal after posting five shutouts in 2014. Also leading the defensive unit is Marissa Borschke who, along with Stone and Smith, was named a Big Ten Player to Watch.
RECAPPING 2014
The Hoosiers posted a 7-11-1 mark last season. The defense shined as Indiana surrendered just 25 goals, the fewest since allowing 22 during the 2009 campaign. Indiana closed out the year with two consecutive shutouts – a 1-0 victory at Purdue and a 2-0 win against Michigan State. In addition, the shutout at Purdue marked the third straight victory against the Boilermakers.
