MATCHING UP WITH MTSU
The Blue Raiders have started the season with three shutouts on their way to a 3-0 record. They opened the season with a 1-0 overtime victory against Tennessee Tech and have since earned 1-0 wins against Jacksonville State and Western Carolina. Grace Summers, Cameron Cox and Emily Jorgenson have each netted a goal for MTSU. Kelsey Brouwer has paced the way for the defense in goal while she and Jorgenson each earned weekly awards from Conference USA on Monday.
Friday's meeting marks the first time Indiana and Middle Tennessee have met in program history.
GEAUXING AGAINST LSU
LSU is off to a 3-0-1 start, picking up victories against Oregon, Western Kentucky and Minnesota, while battling Northwestern State to a 1-1 tie. Jorian Baucom leads the Tigers with three goals in addition to adding a pair of assists. In total, six different Tigers have found the back of the net this season. Goalkeeper Catalina Rubiano has collected 10 saves and a shutout.
The Sunday showdown with LSU is another program first for the Hoosiers.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana traveled to West Lafayette, Ind. last weekend for the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. The Hoosiers picked up a pair of shutout victories against Missouri and Baylor on their way to being named the tournament champions. In addition, goalkeeper Sarah Stone (defensive) and Cassidy Blacha (offensive) picked up MVP honors.
Redshirt junior Marissa Borschke scored her first goal in an Indiana uniform on a game-winning header in the 53rd minute against Missouri. Blacha scored her first career goal five minutes into the first overtime period against Baylor on Sunday.
STONE PICKS UP HONORS
Behind her two shutouts and 10 weekend saves, Stone was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week, marking the second team in her career that she earned the recognition. In addition, Stone was named a Primetime Performer by CollegeSoccer360.com.
DEFENSIVE STREAK
The Indiana defense is currently riding a streak of 367 scoreless minutes, which is the longest span since a 2006 Indiana team put up a 404-minute scoreless streak. The program record is more than 720 minutes set in 1993, the first year of women's soccer at Indiana which saw the Hoosiers post eight straight shutouts. The Hoosiers have not allowed a goal since Virginia Tech's Murielle Tiernan scored in the 18th minute of the season opener.
The Hoosiers are tied for 16th in the nation in shutout percentage (.750), while Stone is tied for second in the Big Ten for saves (15) and shutouts (3).
FRESHMEN MAKING THEIR MARK
The Hoosiers have seen major contributions from the freshman class this season. Along with Blacha's first career goal on Sunday, Caroline Dreher picked up her first career point on an assist to Jessie Bujouves in the season opener. Three freshmen have started at least one game thus far, while five have played significant minutes for the Hoosiers.
WHAT ELSE IS IN STORE FOR 2015?
The Hoosiers head to South Bend, Ind. next Friday to battle No. 6-ranked Notre Dame. The following Sunday, the Hoosiers return home to play host to another in-state foe in Ball State. Five Indiana opponents received a ranking in this week's NSCAA Top 25, including four upcoming competitors.
