BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will open the 2015-16 season on Thursday when the teams play host to Cincinnati on Thursday.
The two-hour meet begins at 3 p.m. at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, with admission to the meet free. The meet will also be broadcast live on BTN Plus.
Fans are encouraged to park in the Sunrise Lot off 10th Street, directly south of the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. Parking in that lot is free. Spectators may also park in the pay lot directly east of the CBAC, but the normal parking charges will apply.
Scouting the Hoosier Swimmers
IU head swimming coach Ray Looze leads the men's and women's swimming teams in to this season after a fantastic 2014-15 campaign.
"Cincinnati is a well coached team which will provide our swimmers a really good first test of our season," Looze said. "We look forward to a spirited meet with the Bearcats."
The Hoosier women placed second last season at the Big Ten Championships, before finishing 10th at the NCAA Championships. At the conference championships, IU captured six swimming titles. On the men's side, the young team placed third at the Big Ten Championships and 12th at the NCAA Championships.
Scouting the Hoosier Divers
IU head diving coach Drew Johansen leads on the nation's most-talented group of divers in to this season after another stellar campaign a year ago.
"We are looking forward to our first meet of the year," Johansen remarked. "The team has had a great summer and we hope to build off that success. "
For the women's team last season, Jessica Parratto was sensational, winning the NCAA Championship on the platform. Parratto also won the Big Ten title in the event for the Hoosiers. On the men's side, James Connor claimed the league title in both the 3-meter and platform, while Michael Hixon won the 1-meter.
Hoosiers on the National Team
When USA Swimming announced the members of the 2015-16 National Team in early September, there was a strong contingent of swimmers that had ties to Indiana University.
The current members of IU team that were named to the national team include Lilly King in the 100 breaststroke, and Blake Pieroni in the 200 freestyle. Former IU standouts that made the cut are Cody Miller in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke along with Lindsay Vrooman in the 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle.
Joining the U.S. National Team coaching staff are current Indiana head coach Ray Looze, associate head coach Mike Westphal and former IU swimmer Logan Schaefer.
Zane Grothe, a graduate of Auburn University, is currently training with the IU coaches and staff in Bloomington and he was named to the team in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle. Groth ranks ninth in the 400 free and 26th in the world in the 200 free.
