Five Hoosier Doubles Wins to Close IU Winter Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team had a strong finish to the IU Winter Invitational on Monday going 5-1 in doubles play inside the IU Tennis Center.

Two Hoosier tandems went 2-0 on the day in Paula Gutierrez and Danielle Wolf along with Madison Appel and Sarah McLean.

Gutierrez and Wolf downed Marquette's Courtney Hebard and Diana Tokar 6-4 before defeating Taylor Culbertson and Linsey Verstrepen from Wright State, 6-1.

McLean and Appel partnered up to defeated Abilene Christian's Nada Marjanovic and Andrea Crook, 6-2. The Hoosier duo also downed Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams of ACU, 6-4.

Kim Schmider and Natalie Whalen were also victorious for Indiana as they topped Culbertson and Verstrepen of WSU, 6-2.

For the tournament, Indiana went 9-3 in singles play and 12-5 in doubles matches. The Hoosiers will open the dual schedule next weekend in Bloomington on Saturday, Jan. 23 against Miami (OH) at 11 a.m. ET.
