The teams agreed to a traditional bout order on Sunday afternoon, starting at 125 lbs. and finishing with the heavyweight bout. Oliver gave the Hoosiers an early 3-0 lead with a triumphant decision win against No. 20 Conor Youtsey.
Both Oliver and Youtsey found opportunities to score in the first period, but neither could notch a point as the bout headed to the second period. Oliver started the second period with an escape in 30 seconds, and the two remained neutral for the remainder of the period.
Youtsey tied it up to start the third period with an escape, and then a quick takedown gave Oliver a 3-2 lead. Youtsey knotted it up with another escape. With seconds remaining in the bout, Oliver brought his opponent to the mat, riding a 5-4 decision to the final buzzer.
Oliver, Indiana's lone true freshman in their starting lineup, is on a three-bout winning streak since his last loss against Penn State. He debuted at No. 21 in the first NCAA Coaches' Panel rankings, and will surely climb into the top 20 with his first ranked win of the year.
Jake Danishek continued his success from Friday's dual at Michigan State with a 10-3 decision win against Michigan's Cody VanderHagen. Like Oliver, Danishek forced a 0-0 stalemate after three minutes. He opened the second period with a rapid escape-takedown combination. The Hoosier freshman rode his 3-0 lead into the third period.
VanderHagen managed an escape early in the third period, which allowed Danishek to rattle off two takedowns while picking up a stall point. Danishek's 10-3 win cut Michigan's lead to 10-6 heading into the intermission.
Danishek is rising to his potential after recovering from an injury earlier in the season. He landed his first two Big Ten dual wins of the season this weekend, bringing his overall record to 13-5.
Indiana junior Nate Jackson suffered his first loss in dual action in the 174 lbs. bout, a 9-8 decision to No. 14 Davonte Mahomes. Jackson trailed by one point after the first period, but he regained ground in the second period. He executed a quick escape and dropped Mahomes for two consecutive takedowns. Mahomes retaliated, and tied the bout at 6-6, with a takedown late in the period. With the second period coming to a close, Jackson managed an escape and took a 7-6 lead into the final two minutes.
Mahomes knotted the bout at 7-7 with an early escape, and Jackson went back on the offensive. The sixth-ranked Hoosier earned a stall point for the 8-7 lead as the clock crept toward the finish. In the closing seconds of the bout, Mahomes delivered the decisive takedown for the 9-8 win.
The loss is Jackson's third on the season, his first in a Big Ten dual. He'll look to bounce back this Friday against Ohio State's Myles Martin. The 15th-ranked Buckeye handed Jackson his first loss earlier this season at the Eastern Michigan Open.
The Hoosiers saw two grapplers get their first starts of the season in a dual meet. Redshirt senior Eric Roach took the mat in the 165 lbs. match, and redshirt freshman Fletcher Miller wrestled against No. 4 Adam Coon in the heavyweight bout. The match was Miller's first dual start of his career.
