BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team is back at home this week as they host Rutgers on Friday Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. and No. 10 Penn State on Saturday Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
Friday is the Hoosiers annual Dig Pink match to promote Breast Cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match and the team is planning on having honorary captains, who are cancer survivors. The first 300 fans in attendance will receive a pink IU t-shirt.
"It's a time to dedicate and see these success stories we have and recognize those people, the struggles they went through and then they came out on top," IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan said. "I'm happy we can be a platform to do that and it's nice for them to feel the support and for us to dedicate a match to them."
Redshirt freshman Kendall Beerman is coming off a match where she had eight kills in the first set, en route to a 14 kill and .500 hitting percentage performance in the Hoosiers match at Iowa. Beerman ranks second in the Big Ten among freshmen in hitting percentage at .310. Senior Jazzmine McDonald tallied four blocks in the match at Iowa and reached 200 career blocks.
Senior Taylor Lebo is 24 digs away from reaching 1,000 for her career and would become the 13th player in school history to reach that milestone. She currently ranks 14th on the Hoosiers all-time list for career digs and is five away from moving into 13th on that list.
Rutgers has yet to win a match in Big Ten play, while the Nittany Lions are atop the Big Ten with a perfect 6-0 mark and last week beat then No. 1 Minnesota in five sets. The Hoosiers are 6-0 all-time against the Scarlet Knights and in 2010 beat a No. 4 Penn State team, for the first time in program history at University Gym.
