Hoosiers to Run in Great Lakes NCAA Regional Meet
Bloomington, Ind. – With a trip to the NCAA Championships, the Hoosiers will run in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday at the Great Lakes NCAA Regional Meet.
The women's 6k race will begin at noon CT (1:00 p.m. ET) with the men's 10k race following at 1:00 p.m. CT (2:00 p.m. ET). Wisconsin will be the host of the meet and the races will be run on the Zimmer Championship Course.
The men's team currently ranks third in the Great Lakes Regional. After starting the year as the top ranked team in the region, they tumbled to fifth after the Pre-National race in Terre Haute. After a third place finish in the Big Ten Championships the team jumped back up to third, behind only Wisconsin and Michigan State. Eastern Michigan, the fourth seed, and Michigan, the fifth ranked team, also figure to be factors in the race. Last year the Hoosiers finished fifth.
IU will send seven runners to the starting line. Jason Crist is the most decorated Hoosier runner in the field and is coming off of his fourth consecutive All-Big Ten selection. Fellow senior, Matt Schwartzer also earned First-Team honors a couple of weeks ago. Big Ten Freshman of the Year Ben Veatch is poised to make an NCAA push. The remainder of the field consists of: Mark Chandler, Jeremy Coughler, Kyle Mau and Bryce Millar. Carl Smith will be the alternate.
The women's team currently sits ninth in the region. The Hoosiers are just a few steps behind a couple of Big Ten foes and will look to leap them this weekend. Michigan will enter the race as the favorite, followed by Eastern Michigan and Notre Dame. IU took seventh a season ago at this meet.
Indiana will be led by Big Ten runner-up Katherine Receveur. Brenna Calder has a knack for coming up big in high profile races. The youthful IU team will also run Maggie Allen, Corinne Cominator, Haley Harris, Chanli Mundy and Hannah Stoffel. Lexa Barrott, Katherine Free, Grace Walther and Alex Warzyniak will be available as alternates for the Hoosiers.
