Hoosiers Finish Off Fall On High Note

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Indiana University men's tennis team finished off their fall schedule with success at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Eight Hoosiers made the trek to North Carolina to compete in the weekend tournament.
Freshman Bennett Crane carried the Hoosiers singles load as he reached the finals before losing to Mustapha Belcora of Troy.
Freshman Zac Brodney lost in the first round of his flight but finished off the weekend strong. Brodney beat a player from Virginia Tech and Davidson to reach the consolation semifinals.
Freshman Payam Ahmadi rolled through the first two rounds with 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2 wins. Ahmadi lost in the semi-finals but rallied to take home third place in his flight.
Junior Keivon Tabrizi, Freshman William Piekarsky, and Senior Stefan Lugonjic all won their first match in their flights before falling in the next round.
In doubles, the Hoosiers had plenty of success as they won two of seven of the flights.
Lugonjic/Brodney and Ahmadi/Piekarsky ended their tournaments in the winner circle. Lugonjic and Brodney fought off a tough opening match, 7-5, to win the next rounds a combined 12-3. Ahmadi and Piekarsky got the better of players from Davidson, UNC-Asheville, and Troy, on their way to the doubles title in their flight.
A duo of Tabrizi and Crane took a loss in the first round of their doubles flight but took the crown in the consolation portion.
The Hoosiers will begin dual matches on Jan. 21 when they travel to Hanover, N.H. to play Dartmouth and Bryant.
