HANOVER, N.H. – The Indiana University men's tennis team opened their 2017 season with wins against the Bryant Bulldogs, 4-0, and the Dartmouth Big Green, 6-1, at the Alexis Boss Tennis Center on the campus of Dartmouth University.

In the day's first match versus the Bulldogs, the doubles teams came out with a big performance leading to three wins. At three doubles, freshmen Bennett Crane and Zac Brodney started it off with a 6-3 win. The doubles point was clinched with a 6-3 win by sophomore's Afonso Salgado and Oliver Sec.

In singles, the Hoosiers capitalized on the back end of their lineup with wins at the five and six singles spot. At five, Brodney won his first singles dual match as a Hoosier, 6-0, 6-1. At six, Senior Stefan Lugonjic had a straight sets win of his own and Crane clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at two singles.

The Hoosiers second match of the day came against the Big Green and IU came out in a big way.

In doubles, the Hoosiers notched a 6-1 win at the three spot by the freshmen duo of Crane and Brodney. After the Hoosiers fell at the second doubles spot, juniors Keivon Tabrizi and Raheel Manji won a decisive tiebreaker to claim the doubles point for IU.

Manji got the Hoosiers rolling in singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the top spot. After the Big Green cut the Hoosiers lead to 2-1, Crane grabbed the fifth singles point with a 7-6(0), 6-4 win to make it 3-1 IU. Cembellin clinched IU's victory when he battled out a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory. The Hoosiers finished the 6-1 win and their day with wins by Tabrizi and Brodney.

Next up, the 2-0 Hoosiers will open up their home slate Jan. 27-28, when they host Ball State, Eastern Illinois, and Illinois-Chicago at the IU Tennis Center.
