IU Cross Country Closes Out Regular Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On an unseasonably warm day at the IU Cross Cross Championship Course the Hoosiers closed out the regular season.
The meet was not scored, but the Hoosiers were well represented at the front of the pack. In a small field of runners the Hoosiers did not see any participant finish outside of the top 13 in either race.
Katherine Free was the first to cross, finishing with a time of 18:22.5. The Hoosiers then took the next seven spots, claiming the top eight in all. Olivia Hippensteel was the runner-up, Alex Warzyniak placed third, Lexa Barrott was fourth, Stacy Morozov (unattached) ran fifth and Grace Walther took sixth for IU. Kelsey Harris, another unattached runner, took seventh, followed by Kellie Davis in eighth. The final Hoosier runner was Anevay Hiehle, who took 11th.
Cooper Williams, unattached, was impressive taking first with a time of 25:27.9. Carl Smith was the runner-up with a time of 25:39.1. Kyle Burks finished fourth, Jordan Huntoon took sixth and Joe Murphy crossed in seventh for the Hoosiers. Cameron Clements and Marcus Ellington also competed unattached. Clements finished eighth while Ellington crossed in 13th.
Up next for the cross country team is a trip to Madison for the NCAA Regional Meet in one week. The Indiana men's team is currently the third ranked Great Lakes region team, just behind conference foes Wisconsin and Michigan State. The women's team was ranked as high as fifth this season in the region.
