The final round team score of 280 was also the second-best single round in program history. The score of 282 in the second round now sits as the third-best round in school history as well.
The overall tournament score of 847 was good for 10th place out of 18 teams in Las Vegas.
CHEVALIER SHINES IN LOUISVILLE…AND LAS VEGAS
Senior Camille Chevalier closed the Cardinal Cup in Louisville with the best round of her college career. She carded four birdies and finished the day at 2-under par 70. It also tied for the lowest round of the day in tough conditions at the UofL Golf Club in Louisville.
Chevalier carried the momentum from Louisville out west to the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, where she set a new IU record for lowest score at a 54-hole tournament. Her score of 208 (-8) was one shot better than Elaine Harris' total of 209 set in 2007. Chevalier would finish in 13th place in Las Vegas with rounds of 67-72-69, with the first round 67 tying the IU record for lowest single round score
STRONG PERFORMANCE AT EAST-WEST MATCH PLAY
The Hoosiers finished in third place in the match play portion at the East-West Match Play after placing fourth in the stroke play portion.
Leading the way for Indiana was Ana Sanjuan, who tied for 21st in the stroke play portion and then went 2-0 in her match play competition. Eva Domingo was the top IU performer in the stroke play, carding rounds of 73 and 71 before going 1-1 in match play.
TEAM EFFORT IN SOUTH CAROLINA
As a team, Indiana finished 8th with a team score of 893 (+29) at the Powerade Cougar Classic to start the 2015-16 season. The Hoosiers eighth place finish to open the season is their best 54-hole tournament finish to start a season since 2012-13, when they finished seventh at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico.
FRESHMEN START STRONG
A pair of freshmen got their collegiate career started in a big way at the Powerade Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., the first tournament of the season.
Erin Harper, from Dublin, Ohio, was the top performer on the IU team, finishing tied for 12th with a total score of 1-over par 217. Her T12 finish gave her the best finish by an IU freshman in a 54-hole event since Elizabeth Tong (T8th) at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate on Oct. 10-11, 2011.
Eva Domingo, a freshman from Spain, finished tied for 40th with a score of 225 (+9), including a team-best 73 in the final round.
