Water Polo Handles Sonoma State in First Fluid Five Match
3/18/2016 8:40:00 PM | Women's Water Polo
Kelly Matthews led the Hoosiers to a convincing 12-4 victory over the Sonoma State Seawolves.  Matthews scored a team high five goals, added one assist, and led the team with six steals.  She scored a goal in all four quarters and had two in the third quarter.
Head coach Barry King thought the team came out with great energy and focus. "The first couple of minutes was like loosening a lid. I thought we had a couple of chances to score but we just didn't finish. Once we got the first one the energy of the team really picked up."
Jennifer Beadle started the scoring barrage in the first quarter with one of her two goals on the night. Karrie Kozokar scored the final goal of the period to take a 3-0 lead. She scored her second goal in the second quarter to make it a 5-0 lead for the Hoosiers. At the half, Indiana led 5-1.
Kate Pipkin added a goal in the third quarter to push the lead to 9-3. She and Beadle both scored goals in the fourth as well. Sarah Myers closed out the scoring for the Hoosiers with a fourth quarter goal. She also won all four sprints for Indiana.
Mary Campbell continued her solid, consistent play in goal by allowing just three goals through three quarters. She added seven more saves to her season total. MacKenzie Bonk played the entire fourth quarter, saw five shots on goal, and made four saves.
Indiana will be back in action with two games tomorrow. At 9:00AM they square off against CSU East Bay and will face Mercyhurst at 1:00PM.
