BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After a long time on the road the Indiana men's tennis team returns home to take on the No. 10 Illinois men's tennis team on Friday March 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
Last week the Hoosiers spent a week of training and team bonding in San Diego, California. The team played then No. 8 Texas Tech, where Sam Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk beat the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the country.
"We were able to play outside everyday in 80 degree weather with the sun shining and palm trees all around the court," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "It was beautiful and we got a lot of good practice in while we were there."
"We were able to play baseball on the beach, surf a little bit as a group and do some things that we don't normally get to do," Wurtzman added. "We were able to practice each morning and in the afternoon have some great team bonding time."
"It was a great trip," senior Daniel Bednarczyk said. "We stayed at a really nice resort and got to spend a lot of time with the team. We got a lot of good practice and training on the courts and enjoyed the California weather."
The Hoosiers now turn their attention to conference play starting with Illinois at home on Friday and then a road trip to Northwestern on Sunday. The next home match will be April 8 against Ohio State.
"I think we are all positive and in a good frame of mind," Wurtzman said. "Practice has been great this week and we know we have our hands full the next three matches. I think it's going to be complete battles, but if we can come together like we have I feel that we can compete with the best in the country."
