
IU Records Three Olympic Trials Cuts on First Day of Speedo Sectionals

GENEVA, Ohio – The Indiana University men's and women's swimming teams began competition at the Speedo Sectionals in Geneva, Ohio on Thursday.
In total, the Hoosiers recorded three Olympic Trials cuts on Thursday at the SPIRE Institute Aquatic Center on the first day of the long-course meter meet.
200 Backstroke
James Beckman won the 200 backstroke with an Olympic Trials cut time of 2:03.71, while Joseph Lane took third with a mark of 2:05.25. Drew Keenan took 13th place with a time of 2:10.65.
1,500 Freestyle
The Hoosiers dominated, taking six of the top seven spots. Matthew Anderson won with an Olympic Trials cut time of 15:41.43, while Adam Destrampe touched the wall second in an Olympic Trials cut time of 15:45.97.
Jack Collins took third in 16:01.25, while Joey Snodderly placed fourth in a mark of 16:02.73. IU's Andrej Ivanovic (16:13.98) took fifth, while Trey Shackleton (16:25.35) placed seventh.
200 Breast
In the women's 200 breast, Laura Morley placed first with a time of 2:36.23, while Mackenzie Atencio placed sixth in the event. In the B Final, Taylor Truex finished second with a Futures cut time of 2:34.36.
On the men's side, Nikola Andjelic placed sixth in a time of 2:23.54, while Sam Apa took 10th overall with a mark of 2:25.97.
In the Consolation Final of the men's 200 breast, IU finished 1-2, with Steven Husch winning with a time of 2:22.44 and Levi Brock taking second in 2:24.68.
50 Freestyle
In the A Final of the 50 freestyle, Gabriela Rajic took fifth with a time of 26.55, while Ali Rockett placed eighth with a mark of 26.90.
In the B Final, Shelly Drozda took second place with a time of 26.97.
The Speedo Sectionals will continue on Friday at the SPIRE Institute Aquatic Center in Geneva, Ohio.
